Classical Reception in Visual Art
In November Professor Platte and Assistant Curator of the Block Museum, Essi Rönkkö, held a small showing of classical reception in visual art at the university’s Block Museum. This was attended by students from Professor Platte’s freshman seminar, Ancient Greece and Rome in Modern Film and Culture. The photo shown here captures the students studying an engraving of the Mocking of Ceres by Hendrik Goudt, while Essi Rönkkö provides a lesson in the techniques of “close looking.”
